Habitat for Humanity Accounces Rock the Block Event
Habitat for Humanity of Miami and Shelby Counties is proud to partner with the Troy Chamber of Commerce, the Troy Foundation, the City of Troy, the MLK Committee, Troy Community Works and the Western Ohio Home Builders Association to bring Rock the Block to Troy, Ohio. The Western Ohio Homebuilders Association is providing in-kind professional labor in addition to logistical support.
Rock the Block is a remarkable five-day community impact event that brings together volunteers and supporters to work in partnership with qualified neighborhood residents to complete dozens of critical exterior home repairs, property maintenance, and beautification projects over a single week. “Rock the Block is an initiative of Habitat for Humanity International, and as an affiliate we are excited to bring it into our service area. We are looking forward to making this an annual event in both counties we serve. The event will make a significant impact in a short time with the generous support of approximately 150 volunteers and many businesses and organizations,” says Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Scott Barr.
This is the local Habitat affiliate’s first Rock the Block event. It will take place May 5-9, 2025. One neighborhood was identified, and early this spring Habitat representatives reached out to homeowners in the area to confirm their interest in participating. 10 homes have been selected for the event and participating organizations, companies, and volunteers will choose one or more days to work during the event week. They will be partnered with specific homes to complete projects under the guidance of Habitat Construction Managers and skilled trade partners. Some qualified projects include yard maintenance, siding and door repair, garage repair, painting, porch repair, and pressure washing. Melissa Kleptz of The Troy Foundation added, “The Troy Foundation is excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Miami and Shelby Counties, OH for the ROCK THE BLOCK event to complete needed home repairs and beautification projects. This project helps address housing needs in Troy by helping to keep Troy residents in their homes.”

About Habitat for Humanity of Miami and Shelby Counties
Since 1992, HFHMSCO has been building homes and offering critical home repair services to families in need. Based in Troy, OH, the organization builds one to two homes annually and serves families earning 30%–80% of the median income in Miami and Shelby Counties. HFHMSCO also operates a ReStore in Troy, OH, which supports its mission through the sale of donated items.
