Barr Joins State Habitat Board
Ryan Miller, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Ohio announces the selection of Scott Barr, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Miami and Shelby Counites as a new board member starting 2025. Miller shares, “Habitat for Humanity of Ohio is very blessed to have Scott Barr join the board of directors. He is a consummate professional that brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Habitat community. His strong leadership and compassionate heart will undoubtedly help our state organization grow and prosper for years to come.”
Barr came to Habitat for Humanity after serving as the President and CEO of the Shelby County United Way for 11 years. He has 17 years of financial services experience, including managing branches at US Bank in Sidney. In addition to his state board position with Habitat for Humanity of Ohio, he represents Shelby County on the Region 15 Board for One Ohio Recovery which reviews and makes grant approval recommendations to the One Ohio state board using funding from the state’s opioid settlements.
Barr joined Habitat for Humanity of Miami and Shelby Counites in November 2023. In his first year, the organization expanded the board from 7 members to 13 members and established a functioning executive committee. Three new staff were hired including a Marketing and Volunteer Coordinator, an Office Assistant, and a Construction Manager to help relaunch the home repair program that saw the completion of 17 home repairs during 2024. The organization also launched a company sponsorship program to support the home repair budget in which volunteers build playhouses, picnic tables, or park benches that are donated to local organizations or public entities. Habitat staff and board members reorganized the family selection process and created a family selection committee. Barr also oversaw the completion of a marketing refresh at the Troy ReStore, and built a new home in Piqua, OH in 14 weeks leveraging volunteers, mission groups, 33 companies, and 4 classes of the Upper Valley Career Center.

Started in 1992 with offices located in Troy, Ohio, Habitat for Humanity of Miami and Shelby Counties builds one to two homes annually for qualified home buyers. The organization operates a critical home repair program serving homeowners who are between 30% and 80% of the median Miami or Shelby County income. In addition, HFHMSCO currently operates one ReStore located in Troy, OH. Corporate volunteer opportunities exist across three different business units. Volunteer groups can work with dedicated volunteer leads in the Habitat Activity Center building sponsored playhouses, benches, and tables; they can work in the community on home repairs or home builds under the guidance of a Construction Manager; or they can assist staff in the Troy ReStore. HFHMSCO seeks to put God’s love into action, bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
